Google Chromecast: Bringing Streaming Media from your Phone or PC to Your TV

Google Chromecast: See it, Stream It

Cast Your Media from Your Phone and PC to Your TV

Today, we have a sponsored post, brought to you by Best Buy, talking about the latest model of the Google Chromecast.  For those unfamiliar with the Chromecast, it is a small dongle designed to turn any HDMI compatible TV into a Smart TV, bringing internet capabilities to your favorite television set.

Similar to a Roku or Fire TV stick, the Chromecast plugs into an HDMI port on your TV, and allows you to access online content through a "regular" TV.  However, the Chromecast also allows you to stream media from a PC, Tablet, Smartphone, or other mobile device to that television set, a feature the other streaming devices do not have.

Once you have plugged the Chromecast into the HDMI port on your TV, you use your phone, tablet, or computer to cast your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports, games, and more to the TV you already own. Chromecast works with your iPhone®, iPad®, Android device, Apple® computer, Windows laptop or Chromebook.

Chromecast is designed to make the most of the apps and entertainment already on your phone. Shows, movies, live TV, YouTube, photos and more are all just a tap away from all of your family’s devices.  Chromecast also lets you use popular apps, like Netflix and Hulu, without having to have an app-capable TV.  And you get all of this for $35.

Now, I am currently evaluating Hulu's Live TV plan as an alternative to pricey cable services. I am loving Hulu Live. What I am NOT loving is the clunky interface provided by the Smart TV app. I much prefer the PC interface, and I find it much easier to use. Chromecast allows me to use my preferred interface to watch Hulu. I simply pull up what I want to watch on my PC and cast it to my TV.

Likewise, Chromecast makes it easier to keep up with my shows when I travel.  Most hotel TVs have an open HDMI port for guest use.  And I never travel without a tablet or a PC. Chromecast allows me to access my Hulu and its DVR service when I am on the road. I simply pull up Hulu on my mobile device and cast it to the Hotel TV.

Finally, I have an extensive collection of purchased VHS and DVD movies I have "ripped" to digital format. In fact, I have an almost full  1 TB drive that houses my digital media collection.  Chromecast allows me to cast ANYTHING I have on this hard drive to my big TV.  I absolutely LOVE not having to copy a file to a flash drive in order to view it on my main TV.

Summary:

The latest iteration of the Google Chromecast is a fantastic way to bring streaming capabilities to a non-Smart TV.  It also works with Google Assistant to bring voice control to your streaming experience.  Chromecast allows you to view media stored on (or originating from) your small-screens to the larger screen of your choice.  It is compact, cost effective, and easy to take with you for use on the go.  Watch movies, shows, live TV, YouTube, and photos streaming on your TV from all of your family’s devices, all made possible by the Google Chromecast.  The newest Chromecast model is available for purchase at Best Buy.
